Crazy Cube, 2017
White cube takes up a lot of space from a small gallery. The piece uses its scale as an instrument. It is expanding, compressing the space, creating a certain realm around. Suddenly you find yourself very close to it, feeling a strong sense of presence. You do not know any longer, what is the gallery wall and what is the wall of the work, are they separated or actually melted together. The gallery and surrounding city space are in a close dialogue with it. Inside the cube a negative version of the public artwork The Memorial to Women in Times of War by Heikki Häiväoja is hidden. The memorial that was erected in 1996 to honor the women’s work during the Second World War is located on Porthaninrinne, in a close proximity to gallery. / mixed media (wood)
