´Taneli Rautiainen works with space and creates surprises for the public in which the everyday becomes strange and the world appears in altered form. Rautiainen, who graduated with an MFA from the University of the Arts Helsinki’s Academy of Fine Arts, works with both material objects that have links to the sculpture tradition and with more immaterial artworks that can, for example, create the impression of a summer thunderstorm or of enveloping rays of light. -- Rautiainen creates experiential situations. His artworks are constructed spatially, but the purpose of his works is not to merge with the space, but to challenge it. -- With his works he succeeds in creating both alienating experiences and a dystopia, but also poetic and metaphysical spaces, where new thoughts and insights arise. His works are without exception art that has an impact on our thoughts, but which does not leave us emotionally unmoved. In this respect he demonstrates how art that springs from the tradition of conceptual art and minimalism can also be emotional, fun and insightful. It is as if the works were attesting time and time again: I wonder therefore I am.´
